Sohini's style is sculpturesque, tactile and three-dimensional, despite its blend of impressionism, expressionism and symbolism. Her paintings cover a wide gamut of subjects from languid landscapes, distance in perspective to faces- by confecting a style, creating a fine tuned fusion of the eternal, looking through the ephemeral, in portraiture. She has worked in different mediums-pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, gouache and oil on canvas. Sohini is largely self directed in her artistic style and oeuvre. She resides and works in New Delhi.
Born in Calcutta, Sohini has been painting since her early childhood-inspired by the everyday unfolding of the seasons, impressions of city life and glimpses of the villages around the city. She studied at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Calcutta and later pursued her studies in the Mandarin language in London and in Beijing. It was here that she was influenced by the works of the European Masters such as Georges Seurat.
